Private Session —
Somatic Experiencing®
60 minutes | In-person or virtual | Sliding scale: $90–$125
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a gentle, body-based approach to resolving the effects of stress and trauma. Developed by Dr. Peter Levine and informed by Dr. Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, SE recognizes that trauma is not the event itself, but what remains in the body when we’re unable to fully respond.
In session, we move slowly. There’s no need to relive the past. Instead of focusing on the story of what happened, we attune to the language of the nervous system—sensations, breath, movement, and emotion—to support regulation and repair. Together, we follow your body’s cues, at the pace it chooses, to gently unwind survival responses and foster connection, resilience, and presence.
This work is especially supportive for those navigating trauma, chronic stress, or recovering from traumatic brain injury (TBI), where overstimulation can make healing feel out of reach.

The nervous system: a foundation for healing
Your nervous system shapes how you experience life—how you respond to stress, connect with others, process emotions, and feel safe in your body. After trauma or a TBI, the system may become stuck in survival patterns like hypervigilance, numbness, overwhelm, or shutdown.
These are not flaws—they are protective responses. But when they persist, they can make it difficult to rest, connect, or feel at home in yourself.
How SE supports recovery
Somatic Experiencing helps the body gently release these patterns by focusing on the present moment. Through attunement to subtle cues—shifts in breath, sensation, or movement—the nervous system finds new pathways back to balance and vitality.
For those healing from TBI, SE offers a uniquely supportive path: slow, spacious, and attuned to the system’s capacity. Whether you are living with cognitive fatigue, anxiety, emotional reactivity, or a sense of disconnection, SE invites your nervous system to rediscover safety and rhythm—rooted in presence, not protection.
FAQs
-
No. While I specialize in supporting those recovering from TBI through modalities like Somatic Experiencing®, Polyvagal Theory, and mindfulness, I also work with individuals navigating stress, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, or those simply seeking a deeper connection to themselves and their nervous system. This work meets you where you are—whether you’re healing, growing, or remembering what safety feels like in your body.
-
SE is a body-based approach to healing trauma and stress. It helps release stuck survival energy like fight, flight, or freeze—without needing to relive or retell your trauma.
-
SE focuses on the body, not just thoughts or stories. We follow your present-moment sensations, breath, and impulses to restore regulation from the inside out.
-
Somatic Experiencing supports a wide range of concerns. It can be especially helpful for those navigating trauma—whether developmental, acute, or complex—as well as people recovering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) or concussion. Many clients come seeking support for anxiety, emotional overwhelm, burnout, chronic fatigue, or sleep difficulties. Others arrive with chronic tension, medical trauma, or a persistent feeling of being stuck or disconnected from life. Whether your challenges are recent or longstanding, SE offers a gentle and effective path toward regulation and reconnection.
-
After a traumatic brain injury, the nervous system can become dysregulated—swinging between overwhelm and collapse, or becoming easily overstimulated. SE works gently with the body’s physiology, not just its psychology. It allows the system to slow down, build capacity, and process stress without triggering more symptoms. SE complements cognitive rehab, occupational therapy, and/or mindfulness practices. It offers a profound felt sense of safety and agency in the body.
-
No. You are never required to share details of your trauma. The work happens through the body—and we trust what emerges.
-
We start with a check-in, then follow your body’s cues—like breath, sensations, or movement. Sessions are quiet, collaborative, and grounded in safety.
-
That depends on what you're bringing in, your goals, and the pace of your nervous system. Some people come for a few sessions to work through a specific issue or life transition. Others engage in longer-term support as part of their ongoing integration and healing process. There’s no “right” number. You’re always in choice, and we revisit your intentions together as we go.
-
Both. You can meet with me at our sanctuary in Tucson or work together via Zoom. Some do a combination. We’ll choose what feels best for you.
-
Not directly. While sessions are not in the herds presence, the horses are always part of the field, even from a distance.
-
In-person and virtual essions are offered on a sliding scale of $90–$125. A limited number of reduced rate spaces are available each month—please inquire if needed.
Although we are NOT a non profit, each session directly supports the care and well-being of the sanctuary.
